Tammy Goes to Stockholm – SketchUp’s Visiting Professionals Program

Over Thanksgiving break, I had the opportunity to speak to students at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. The visit was part of SketchUp's Visiting Professionals Program. I always enjoy these visits and learn so much when preparing for and delivering these presentations.

I had been tasked with presenting a SketchUp for iPad workflow. Before I started, I was able to see the students use SketchUp. Their 3D models looked terrific! But the main concept they struggled with was Grouping and Componetizing parts of their model. Most of the 3D models were one large mass of geometry, making it difficult to control the visibility and edibility of their drawings. So I decided to switch gears and add model organization to my talk.

After my presentation, I realized that these students are a bellwether for concepts that everyone struggles with when learning SketchUp. My main focus at SketchUp for Interior Designers has always been model organization and efficient workflows, but this week gave me new energy to boost that focus in 2023. So get ready for even more courses and lessons that simplify model organization!
